The 48th running of the Irish Oaks was held on Thursday 23rd July 1942 over 1 1/2 miles of The Curragh, starting at the Howth Post. A pot of 2000 sovereigns was availble, 300 sovereigns to the second and 200 sovereigns to the third. The winner was owned by HH Aga Khan, trained by H Hartigan, and ridden by Joe Canty. The winner won by a length in 2 minutes 43.2 seconds, with 5 lengths between second and third.

RACE REPORT

Shining Star dwelt at the start, losing many lengths, but on settling down Fairy Light led from So Lovely and Wincara. With half a mile to run So Lovely took it up, closely attended by Fairy Light, an order which was maintained rounding the final bend. At the distance Majideh made smooth progress to win hard held by a length from Fairest, with fully 5 lengths back to Primrose Path in third.
